Student Life

A Day At Excalibur

School is not for the sake of school but for the sake of life. Every day at Excalibur is designed to cultivate the mind, strengthen the character, and awaken wonder in every scholar.

Morning

Opening Ceremony. Each day begins with the entire school community gathered together. Scholars recite the Pledge of Allegiance, hear a reading from a classic text, and are reminded of the virtues that guide our community.

Core Academic Block. The morning is devoted to rigorous instruction in reading and literacy, mathematics, and writing through structured composition and handwriting practice.

Midday

History and Science. Scholars explore the great events, figures, and ideas of human civilization through a content-rich curriculum. Science instruction emphasizes observation, inquiry, and foundational principles.

Latin. All scholars study Latin, beginning with vocabulary and basic grammar in the early grades.

Afternoon

Music, Art, and Physical Education. These are integral parts of a complete classical education that cultivate beauty, creativity, and discipline.

Mentor-Led Discussion. The day includes time for guided conversation through Socratic questioning, shared reading, or reflection on the day's virtues.

Traditions & Community

Traditions give a school its identity and its soul. We are building traditions that unite our community, celebrate achievement, and connect scholars to something larger than themselves.

Opening Ceremonies - Weekly formal assemblies where scholars recite pledges, hear readings from the classics, and receive recognition for academic achievement and exemplary character.

Constitution Day - Each September 17th, scholars engage in special lessons on constitutional principles with community activities honoring the founding ideals of our republic.

Celebration of Schole - Inspired by the Greek concept of restful learning, scholars dress as figures from history and literature, embodying the classical ideal of learning pursued with joy.

Guardian Games - End-of-year mental and physical challenges celebrating the union of a strong mind and a strong body, central to the classical tradition.

End-of-Year Exhibition - Scholars present their finest work to parents and community in a formal showcase of the year's learning and accomplishment.

Character & Virtues

Academic instruction and character formation are inseparable. We believe that virtue requires both a trained mind and a generous heart.

Through the Classics - Great books are filled with examples of courage, justice, prudence, and sacrifice. Scholars encounter these virtues and internalize them.

Through Mentoring - Mentors model the virtues they teach, holding scholars to high standards out of genuine care for each student's growth.

Through Daily Practice - Virtue is cultivated through habit. Scholars practice courtesy, self-discipline, responsibility, and service every day.

Through Community - Opening ceremonies, traditions, and a culture of recognition create an environment where doing the right thing is expected and celebrated.

Co-Curriculars

Excalibur offers co-curricular activities that complement our academic program and provide scholars with opportunities to develop talents and build friendships.

Music - Instruction in vocal music and musical fundamentals, with plans to expand into instrumental programs as the school grows.

Art - Guided instruction in drawing, painting, and visual arts, emphasizing observation, technique, and appreciation for beauty.

Physical Education - A structured program developing coordination, strength, and the habits of a healthy life.

Library & Reading - A curated school library of classic works with dedicated reading time built into the weekly schedule.

As Excalibur expands to upper grades, we plan to introduce athletics, speech and debate, drama, and academic competitions.
